The pulpits of New England were especially important in helping to bring about independence. Long before the general population understood the threat to American liberty, some colonial ministers saw what was coming and boldly spoke out about it from the pulpits.”

The title black regiment needs explaining. It was the black color of the robes the ministers wore that gave rise to the term the Black Regiment. These colonialists, who were organized under the Black Regiment to protect their towns from the British at a moment’s notice, were called Minutemen.

The Minutemen were usually laymen from a particular church, led by their minister or deacon. They conducted military drills after Sunday services. Rev. Jonas Clark, for example, was in charge of the Minutemen in Lexington, Massachusetts, who were attacked in the first conflict of the Revolutionary War.

Many people today, especially those on the left, don’t realize that the many of the first settlers of New England were devout Christians. They also downplay the pivotal role that the Great Awakening had in preparing the Colonialists for Independence.

Although there were many in the Black Regiment from other colonies and regions, it was the New England pulpit.. to which this honorary designation was given…. John Adams observed, ‘The Philadelphia ministers ‘thunder and lighten every Sunday against George III’s despotism.’

More important than the freedom of religion is the freedom to change one’s religion. England wanted to do impose their will on the colonies. The British Parliament intended to impose upon all the American colonies membership in the Episcopal (or Anglican) Church. All the hardships the Pilgrims, Puritans, Quakers, Presbyterians, and Huguenots had endured to escape religious persecution would have been all for nought had England imposed such a requirement on America.

Although the Minutemen were poorly equipped volunteers, they used a unique and effective form of warfare for their day. Wars in the late 1700’s were customarily fought by lining up armies in columns in the open field and shooting at one another until one army retreated. During the Revolutionary War, the British army would line itself up, but the Minutemen, instead… chose to hide behind trees or hills and fight from there.

The danger today to our freedoms is as important today as it was when we broke away from England. The pulpits of America need to preach on returning our country to the Biblical values we were based on so real freedom can continue.
Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-56124581290589305752022-11-29T00:00:00.003-05:002022-12-07T17:21:56.043-05:00The word Abortion is a Euphemism
I attend a weekly Bible Study group called Torah Club. The Jewish world goes through the Torah (5 books of Moses) and related readings from the Prophets and Writings in one year. Torah Club does the same thing, but it is directed and augmented by the fulfillment of those same scriptures in the person of Yeshua the Messiah and the writings of the New Covenant. Each weekly Torah Reading has a name. This week’s Torah reading is called Toldot, taken from Genesis 23:1-25:18. In addition to the reading, there is a commentary. I’d like to share some of those comments because they are greatly needed by the world.

In this week’s portion, Rebekah delivers twins: Jacob and Esau. These two were struggling with each other in the womb up until their birth as Jacob grasps the heel of Isaac who is born first! Their struggle continues when their very different personalities clash with each other, culminating when Esau despises his birthright and Jacob barters it away from him. In addition to this illustration of babies in the womb having a sense of what is going on, the commentary also mentions this interesting thought:

“From the moment of conception, the souls that come to inhabit human bodies are already people. The personalities are already there… They are individuals in possession of their unique souls - transcendent and heavenly beings - each one on his or her mission and path in life.”

The word “abortion” is a euphemism, in that it hides what is really happening. The truth is that when a pregnancy is ended barbarically, or otherwise, the beating heart of a human being, who has a different DNA than its mother, is stopped; it kills not only the human body, but separates the heavenly spirit from the body. I can say without a doubt, that this crime saddens and angers the Biblical God who breathed life into the child. There is absolutely no excuse for this travesty. This reminded me of the debate between Dixon and Whitmer in Michigan’s recent Governor election. I think the subject of “abortion” was handled far too gingerly. I might suggest questioning Whitmer as follows: “Governor, how do you determine what is morally right or wrong? Governor, we constantly hear of a woman’s right to choose, but no mention is made of what is happening to the baby! Perhaps, Governor, you could relate to us what the baby is going through when the surgeon’s blade cuts through the baby’s arm as it is sucking its thumb? When you stop the baby’s heart, you are stopping its soul from living out its purpose. Only God knows what that person could have become. It is not a good idea for a person, a state, or a nation to anger the Biblical God this way. It’s like spitting into the wind.

We have all heard of all the senseless killings and attacks in the news. I suggest that our culture's obsession with killing babies has lead to a general cheapening of life. When children see that adults kill babies with little regard to the baby's life, topped off by no regard for what the Biblical God thinks of such things, then I believe that results in an increase in crime. Proverbs 14:34 says: "<span style="background-color: #e9eef1; color: #01103a; font-family: arial, helvetica, "sans serif";">Righteousness exalts a nation,

<span style="background-color: #e9eef1; color: #01103a; font-family: arial, helvetica, "sans serif";">But sin <em id="yui-gen35" style="border: 0px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); box-sizing: border-box; color: #01103a; font-family: arial, helvetica, "sans serif"; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">is<span style="background-color: #e9eef1; color: #01103a; font-family: arial, helvetica, "sans serif";"> a reproach to <em id="yui-gen32" style="border: 0px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); box-sizing: border-box; color: #01103a; font-family: arial, helvetica, "sans serif"; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">any<span style="background-color: #e9eef1; color: #01103a; font-family: arial, helvetica, "sans serif";"> people." Wisdom, according to the Bible, begins with the fear of the LORD. Our country needs to do everything it can to promote the respect for life by promoting righteousness.
Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-1279412342756084352022-07-27T21:58:00.001-04:002022-07-27T21:58:21.369-04:00 The Great Awakening
The Great Awakening, which occurred in the American colonies before the Revolutionary War, is desperately needed today! It would be wonderful if history could repeat itself and turn our fractured, sinful country around, before it’s too late. Here are a few quotes from chapter 6:

“The Great Awakening was a spiritual movement, not a political one, but it had political consequences as communications were established between the various colonies up and down the eastern seaboard. British historian Paul Johnson says it was the ‘original dynamic of the continental movement for independence.’ The sixth thing every Christian should know about the founding of America is that the Great Awakening, a religious revival, was a key factor in uniting the separate pre-Revolutionary War colonies and in increasing communication among them.”

“As we have seen, America had been founded primarily for religious purposes… The Americans were overwhelmingly church-going, much more so than the English, whose rule they rejected.”

The Great Awakening had its early roots among German immigrants who were most thankful for this “promised land” and for their delivery from poverty in Germany. In 1719, the German pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church, Theodore Felinghuysen, led a series of revival meetings in the Rarity Valley in New Jersey. Another early preacher was a Scottish-Irish Presbyterian named William Tennent in Pennsylvania. He established what would become known as Princeton university. He and his son Gilbert were fiery preachers who practiced… emotional hymn singing along with their sermons. They emphasized Godly living and the need for personal Bible study. This made reading, and therefore, education, a must. This linkage caused the literacy rate to climb to nearly 100% in the late 1700’s. Jonathan Edwards, a prominent preacher during the Great Awakening, would one day become president of Princeton.

Jonathan Edwards’ influence reached far beyond this time. Not only were thousands converted through his sermons, but even the unconverted benefited from the social and political consequences of his preaching. He and his wife Sara had eleven children, who were all raised to be Godly people.

Their success as parents was revealed in a study done in 1990, showing that their descendants included 13 college presidents, 65 professors, 30 judges, 100 lawyers, a dean of a law school, 80 public office holders, nearly 100 missionaries, 3 mayors, 3 governors, 3 United States senators, 1 comptroller of the US Treasury, and 1 vice president of the United States.

However, the last person mentioned, had a different story. Vice President Aaron Burr lived in rebellion to the Christianity of his childhood. Aaron Burr was a man of low character who killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel. Later Burr would be accused of treason.

The Great Awakening had thousands of amazing testimonies where the spirit of the Biblical God moved through entire families, towns, and regions. Edwards wrote about this in his book, A Faithful Narrative on the Surprising Work of God in the Conversion of Many Hundred Souls in Northampton.

At the height of The Great Awakening, the New England churches grew daily. Robert Flood reports that between 1740 and 1742, out of a total population of 300,000 in New England, 25,000 to 50,000 people joined the churches. The movement changed the entire moral tone of New England for the better and justly earned the name of the Great Awakening.

The other famous preacher of the Great Awakening was George Whitefield. Whitefield came from Old England, where he had attended Oxford University with John and Charles Wesley, brothers who were also great evangelists and hymn-writers who would later impact the east coast of America.

George Whitefield preached from New England to Georgia, uniting all the colonies spiritually before American independence was even a dream. At the same time, Whitefield had a concern not only for the spiritual health, but also for the physical health of the colonies. He founded an orphanage for the children who were unprovided for. He preached over and over again about the need for being born again. His wife said, ‘It is wonderful to see what a spell he casts over an audience by proclaiming the simplest truths of the Bible. Our mechanics shut up their shops, and the day laborers throw down their tools to go and hear him preach, and few return unaffected.”

Whitefield returned to America for seven continental tours over thirty years.

Even Benjamin Franklin, who was definitely not a man of faith, recognized the beneficial social effects of these revivals and of Whitefield’s preaching:

“It was wonderful to see the change soon made in the manners of our inhabitants. From being thoughtless or indifferent about religion, it seemed as if all the world were growing religious, so that one could not walk through town in an evening without hearing psalms sung in different families of every street.”

Paul Johnson points out that this Great Awakening sounded the death-knell of British Colonialism. The Great Awakening helped to forge the sections of the country together. The chapter goes into considerable detail on the interaction of the British and the Colonialists, but for my purposes, I’ll close with this:

The unified response of the colonies confirms what Paul Johnson has pointed out - that the message of the Great Awakening, which created new men and women in Christ in all thirteen colonies, had undoubted political overtones. Johnson concludes: “The Great Awakening was thus the proto-revolutionary event, the formative movement in American history, preceding the political drive for independence, and making it possible.”

The key text for the Great Awakening was Revelation 21:5: “Behold, I make all things new.”

Founder John Adams, who later served as America’s second president said, “The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments of their duties and obligations.

Paul Johnson wrote:

“The Revolution could not have taken place without this religious background. The essential difference between the American Revolution and the French Revolution is that the American Revolution, in its origins, was a religious event, whereas the French Revolution was an anti-religious event. That fact was to shape the American Revolution from start to finish and determine the nature of the independent state it brought into being.”

Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-62735397421910489102022-06-08T19:31:00.000-04:002022-06-08T19:31:02.214-04:00Cutting the Cord and SkyWatchTV
I recently cut the cable cord and found something far better. I kept the Xfinity internet and added three things instead: 1) Discovery +, primarily so I could get Magnolia Network and the History Channel (though History channel no longer shows new episodes on Discovery plus), 2) Disney +, though its recent announcements that Disney has gone woke has me almost ready to cut that cord too, and 3) FOXNATION. I discovered that ROKU itself has some cool options. For example, Real America’s Voice is a very good conservative news station, and NewsMax is good too. I’ve also enjoyed an interesting show called the Shape of Pasta on Roku. But the best thing I added to Roku is SkywatchTV. It is a free Christian program with some very cool shows that are way more interesting and cutting edge than your “typical” Christian network. Some of its personalities, who are very prolific authors, are Thomas Horn, Josh Peck, and Derek and Sharon Gilbert. Their weekly show is hosted by Joe Horn (I think he’s the son of Thomas Horn). They have a publishing business called Defender Press with some amazing titles. I just finished reading The Messenger by Thomas Horn, The Lost Prophesies of Qumran by Josh Peck, and the Ancient Mysteries of the Essenes by Ken Johnson. It mentions that the early colonial education used the Bible as their chief textbook. The education for the primary grades was based on the New England Primer which taught the ABC’s using wisdom from the Bible. Later, the first United States Congress meeting under the new Constitution in 1789 passed a law directing that each additional state and territory to be added to the new nation should be committed to promoting religion, morality, and knowledge by building schools.

America’s first colleges, such as Princeton, Yale, and Harvard were all Christian in their beginnings. Roger was a strong Christian who did not agree with some of the harsher rules of the Puritans. A quote from the chapter is “God [does not need] the help of a material sword of steel to assist the sword of the spirit in the affairs of men.” “Rhode Island was a sanctuary for religious dissidents. Roger Williams called his new settlement Providence to honor God for miraculously sparing his life during his winter flight to the colony and also to honor God’s sovereignty over the affairs of man.”

“Among the religious refugees who came to these shores in the 17th century were followers of George Fox, better known as the Quakers. The most important Quaker in America was William Penn…The state generally associated with him - Pennsylvania, meaning Penn’s woods. William Penn, born in London in 1644, was the son of a British Naval officer (Sir William Penn). At the age of eleven, the young William had a conversion experience that would affect the rest of his life. It led directly to his strong conviction that every person has the God-given right to determine how he will worship and with whom he would fellowship.”

“Penn received an excellent education at Christ Church in Oxford, but he was expelled because of his dissenting views. These views were not in conformance with those of the Church of England. His father sent him to France to study…. But Penn studied among the Huguenots… Penn went to Ireland to manage lands and people owned by his father. Later, he learned about Roger Williams in Rhode Island and the mistreatment of of Quakers in Massachusetts.

He later wrote a document called the Concessions for a new settlement called New Jersey in the colonies. By 1680, the Concessions had 150 signers; it was unique in that it promoted the power of the people to elect a governor who would oversee the conformance to the principles in the Concessions. “No man was to be arrested, condemned, imprisoned, or molested in his estate or liberty… no man has the authority to rule over men’s consciences in religious matters. The Quakers also encouraged local Indians to bring their problems to the commissioners and to have a fair trial before a court of six Indians and six settlers.”

Penn finally went to America in 1682, after deciding the situation for Quakers in England was intolerable. He founded a new colony called Pennsylvania. The land was given to him by England. Nearly 100 Quakers sailed with him to America. Penn wrote the Frame of Government with twenty articles; the first ten concerned the land; the next five dealt with just treatment of the Indians, and the last five were concerned with the laws. Penn oversaw the planning for the city that would be called Philadelphia. It became the cultural capital of America. In the Frame fo Government, religion and government are so intertwined that it is impossible to separate them.

The chapter goes on to reference other groups, such as Scotch-Irish Presbyterians, Huguenots, Anabaptists, and Catholics. These settled in other colonies, such as Maryland

John Calvin greatly influenced the founding of America. While he never lived there, his documents provided the framework for many of the covenants, compacts, and constitutions which ended up in the United States Constitution. John Calvin emphasized the belief that Jesus should not just be Lord over a Christian’s life, but should be Lord over every sphere of life - including politics and government.

Later, as 1776 approached, the King of England would later say, “I fix all the blame for these extraordinary proceedings upon the Presbyterians (who were Calvinists).”

Dr. John Eidsmoe, a Christian historian, wrote, “The Presbyterians, with their Calvinist view of limited government and the duty to resist tyranny, were among the nation’s strongest supporters of independence.”

Our second president John Adams was convinced that the strong influence of Christianity had shaped American republicanism. While many of America’s early Pioneers were thoroughly Christian, subsequent immigration and generational changes affected the populace over time - and not to our country’s benefit. In addition to that, there has long been a sinister influence that has fashioned many of the details of our country. I’m speaking about freemasonry. As Tom Horn writes about in his many books, most recently Zeitgeist 2025 (the countdown to the Secret Destiny of America), the imprint that freemasonry has had on our seal, our money, and the public buildings - including their layout in Washington D.C. is profound. Here is a brief quote from Tom Horn’s book:

“It is important to note that besides Benjamin Franklin, as many as forty-four of the fifty-six signers of the Declaration of Independence were also Freemasons. Numerous US presidents were part of the Craft as well, including Washington, Monroe, Jackson, Polk, Buchanan, A. Johnson, Garfield, McKinley, T. Roosevelt, Taft, Harding, F. Roosevelt, Truman, L. B. Johnson, and Ford, not to mention additional elites in the Order such as Paul Revere, Edmund Burke, John Hancock, and many more.

[Washington D.C.’s] layout intentionally incorporated the esoteric belief system of Freemasonry, especially as it involved astrologically aligning the capital with the constellation Virgo (Isis). In 1793, when George Washington sanctioned the laying of the capitol building’s cornerstone, he did so wearing a Masonic apron emblazoned with the brotherhood’s symbols.”

While all of this behind-the-scenes maneuvering affected many of the higher level people and institutions in Washington, the average person in the 1700-1900 period was still being taught morals based on the Bible:

Here is a quote from THE-BIBLE-USE-IN-AMERICAN-SCHOOLS-1700-1900.pdf

"In early American church schools, private schools, and public schools, the Bible was used as a textbook as well as a devotional guide. The 17th century founders of American society discerned in Scripture the patterns by which God directed the whole of human destiny. Hence, the methods and aims of education were finally to be governed by the biblical revelation, and in the most fundamental way God was the one true teacher. This view of education was particularly evident among the Puritans who settled New England in the decades following 1630. Barr says the Bible was a powerful force in education in the 17th and 18th centuries and gradually declined in the 19th and 20th centuries. “Opening exercises began with the Lord's Prayer, Bible readings, and roll call. Even by the mid-20th century, Pennsylvania public elementary and secondary schools began with the Lord’s prayer, Bible reading, roll call, and the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Further, the focus of learning changed during the 1900s, scholars say, to accommodate a world that was becoming more specialized, more scientific. The Bible generally took on a more perfunctory role in the schools -- providing passages for opening ceremonies, a backdrop for religious holidays. During this time, what Lundy calls “biblical illiteracy'' in the culture also crept into the schools. “Neutrality in religion” became the accepted mode in the classroom."

So, is the United States a Christian country? Jonathan Cahn is famous for establishing that our country is a modern day version of pre-captivity Israel. What happened to them is happening to us now. His books Paradigm and Harbinger II are especially applicable. We, like Israel, are a country that knew the Biblical God and were blessed as a result. But over time, we, like they, departed from the LORD and went our own way. For Israel, it led to invasion and military defeat; for us - who knows? Our extremely weak and incompetent administration, the threats from Russia and China, the brain washing of our schools and universities, plus the ever mutating Covid virus all point to the prophesied involvement with the Global swamp. That’s where the 2025 comes from in Horn’s Zeitgeist book. Is that our intersection with destiny? I hope not.

Back to the book:

"Conclusion:

Without a doubt, the Puritans helped to shape the future course of the American nation. It was both their theological and political practices, as well as their written agreements for self-government based on the Bible, that have had the greatest impact on America. The third thing every Christian should know about the founding of America is that the Puritan practice of church covenants gave rise to the concept of political covenants, compacts, and written constitutions. Ultimately, these documents did much to inspire the United States Constitution, which survives to this day."

<p class="p2" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 12px;">

Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-13125154642176159922021-12-19T15:40:00.000-05:002021-12-19T15:40:04.321-05:00One Nation Under GOD - second thing every person should know about the founding of America
One Nation Under GOD

Ten Things Every Christian Should Know About the Founding of America

By Dr. David C. A group of travel-weary, Godly men and women, blown off-course during their voyage, were creating their own government. This new government was not like any other civil government they had ever known. The Pilgrims agreed among themselves and before God to freely submit to a covenant of equality grounded in the governing of self as taught in Scripture.

The obvious source of the Pilgrim’s foundational idea for this voluntary mutually binding agreement was the Bible. The signs of its decay surround us on every side. We have called evil good and good evil and persecuted those who stand up for righteousness. Brazen advocates for abortion, gender confusion, crime, military defeats, droughts, and plagues are symptoms of our deep sin. It is not global warming that is the main problem, it is our cold hearts.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">When I read the “Old Testament” in the past, I used to wonder why the Israelites chose the wrong path over and over again. All that BG (Biblical God) required of them was to put Him first, not follow after idols, and to obey his commandments. In return, BG would bless them by keeping their enemies away, providing all that they would need to live comfortably and they could even be a blessing for the world. But the nation was always one generation away from losing it. I am amazed that in my lifetime things have deteriorated so fast in this country that I don’t even recognize it anymore. Our country, like Israel, was founded upon Biblical principles. The Puritans identified themselves with Israel by settling New England as their Promised Land. George Washington committed the country to God in a prayer in the same church that was struck by falling debris from the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. We can learn a lot by studying what happened to Israel.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Take 1 Kings 11:6 for instance; “Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and did not fully follow the LORD, as did his father David.” Verse 11: Therefore the LORD said to Solomon, “Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Solomon’s son Rehoboam continued the downward trend. He was approached by people from the kingdom who lived north of Jerusalem and said in 1 Kings 12:5 + , “Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you.” So he said to them, “Depart for three days, then come back to me.” And the people departed.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, and he said, “How do you advise me to answer these people?” And they spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. And he said to them, “What advice do you give? How should we answer this people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Lighten the yoke which your father put on us’?”

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Then the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you should speak to this people who have spoken to you, saying... ‘And now, whereas my father put a heavy yoke on you, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!’

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Rehoboam did not follow the sound advice of his elders and, as a result, the kingdom split in two: Israel, with its northern ten tribes and Judah and Benjamin with its two tribes in the south around Jerusalem.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">With a few exceptions, all of the kings of Israel and Judah continued this downward path. It would culminate in the invasion of Israel by Assyria in 721 BC and a two punch strike against Judah a little later. Babylon struck them first in 605 BC and then 19 years later in 586 BC when they completed the job. Nineteen years. Jonathan Cahn has a chilling chapter in his book Harbinger II that equates what happened to Israel with what has happened to America using the number 19. The time span between 9/11 and the Covid-19 pandemic is 19 years. BG’s grace sustains us now, but for how long? Our bungled defeat in Afghanistan may have left the door open for terrorists to attack us in even more nefarious ways. Perhaps by smuggling a nuclear device through our porous southern border and setting it off somewhere. It could be by a terrorist who was born in the same place as one of the hijackers. The Bible has many examples of irony carried to the nth degree.

Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-9143221466997742212021-09-02T14:50:00.000-04:002021-09-02T14:50:07.252-04:00Isaiah 32: A Reign of Righteousness (is what we need)
It's been a while since I posted, but as I was shaking my head at the insane debacle that has happened in Afghanistan, I opened my Bible to Isaiah chapter 32 and found that it spoke directly to this situation.

I won't reprint the verses, but I'll give you an assignment: Read:

Isaiah 32: 5-7 describes what our sorry excuse for a president has done

Isaiah 32: 9-15 describes what liberal women who voted against Trump might be feeling now

Isaiah 32: 1-4, 8, and 16-20 describes what I pray will happen

Selah

Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-18039855286277639282021-01-01T22:13:00.001-05:002021-01-01T22:13:18.676-05:00What if the first presidential debate went this way?
What if the first presidential debate went this way?

(Mike Wallace) Good evening. I learned of them through some of my staff who are in a Bible study. They are eye opening and extremely relevant to this election.

I recommend you read three books written by Jonathan Cahn, (spelled C a h n), one by Sean Hannity, and one by Mike Huckabee. The democratic platform is responsible for the killing of 60 million babies since 1973! and the biblical God, who was at the heart of our country’s founding, is very angry with this slaughter. The hedge of protection we enjoyed has been breached, first by 9/11 and now, 19 years later, by Covid-19. This is a parallel to what happened to Israel and Judah. You can read about that in the Harbinger and Harbinger II. We need to change our ways, because I don’t want America to suffer the same fate as Judah experienced.

….

Later:

In this section, I recommend Sean Hannity’s enlightening book, Live Free or Die. It covers the nefarious deeds that the democrats have used against my presidency and what is at stake if this election goes over to the Democrats. It is a reminder of what America stands for and what we could lose if the radical left takes over this country. The three C’s are Christianity, Capitalism, and the Constitution. As to the first C, I can just hear the roar that will come up from the people advocating separation of church and state. Well, first off, according to our founders, including Jefferson, that is not what they meant, as this quote from Mike’s book, on page 82 shows:

“In 1855, Congress presented a statement in a House Judiciary Committee report clearly showing that separation of church and state was neither a practiced policy nor something they even considered:

At the time of the adoption of the Constitution and the amendments, the universal sentiment was that Christianity should be encouraged… In this age there can be no substitute for Christianity… That was the religion of the founders of the republic and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants.”

Our schools need to teach students by having them research what has happened to every country that has tried socialism (and failed) and then compare it to what capitalism has done. Liberal teachers and professors are indoctrinating our children by advancing their far left agendas and leaving Christianity out of everything. The degree to which this has been done is shocking and incredibly dangerous.

Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-50035684284260626612020-12-14T13:46:00.001-05:002020-12-14T13:46:28.813-05:00The Chosen
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; white-space: pre-wrap;">I’ve been watching a wonderful DVD set called the Chosen. It is directed by Dallas Jenkins and is being paid for through Crowd Funding; in fact it’s the largest such endeavor ever. The 3 DVD set has 8 episodes from season 1 on 2 DVDs, and the third one has a few shorts and 8 sessions where Dallas meets with three men representing Judaism, Catholicism, and Evangelicalism to get their feedback on each episode. It really is well done and I look forward to Season 2, which I understand is almost complete. I recommend that you check them out, get involved with its support, and watch this series.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Here is the introduction from their website (https://studios.vidangel.com/the-chosen):

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Chosen is the first-ever-multi-season TV show about the life of Jesus. He figured prominently in Jonathan Cahn’s book Harbinger II. But even before that, God led me to read Jeremiah. There were three events which were highlighted in the recent call to repentance which took place on September 26: Jonathan Cahn’s Return in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Franklin Graham’s Prayer event as the walked around the Mall, and Focus on the Family’s program that evening about Abortion. Jeremiah has powerful things to say about these topics.

God’s view on life is shown in this verse: Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” It is God who created the baby Jeremiah and God knew him at conception as a human being. Before he was born, God had plans for him. God appointed Jeremiah as a prophet to the nations. To the nations means more than just Judah; it extends all the way to America. Judah had departed from God in every aspect of life, just as in America.

Jeremiah 2:12-13

Be astonished, O heavens, at this, And be horribly afraid; Be very desolate,” says the LORD.

“For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Jeremiah 3:2-3 And you have polluted the land with your harlotries and your wickedness. Harbinger set the stage by explaining the details surrounding the attack of 9/11 using the same characters. Especially the reasons why our country allowed it to happen by abandoning our Judeo Christian heritage. This Hedge of Protection was breached by the planes that set out from Boston as they crashed into the world trade center. The Harbinger II adds a detail that the airport was built over the exact spot where the ship carrying John Winthrop, leader of the Pilgrims, landed on April 8, 1630. Eleven more ships would later come to bring 700 more Pilgrims from England to start the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which Winthrop dedicated to God. They saw themselves following the pattern of Israel as they were entering a new promised land. Divine justice is a master at reversing things through promises and curses. For example, in Israel’s early history, ten spies were sent to check out the land that God promised them. With the exception of Joshua and Caleb, the rest of the spies reacted in fear to the giants in the promised land. As a result, God put the nation through forty years of wandering to make sure the children survived and the adults died off. Joshua and Caleb led the way into the Promised Land. This reversal where the adults die and the children survive would play itself out in our day. But more on that below.

As I read Harbinger II, I was reminded that God is watching us and our nation. Everything we do is like a test. Are we following the Lord or are we responding in fear and following after other gods? In Jonathan’s book, the Paradigm, he draws a strong parallel between America’s recent political history and ancient Israel’s history. Our current history is acting out what happened to Israel. The other day I was reading how Jeremiah had to deal with critics speaking fake news because he kept warning Judah about the impending judgment. God used Jeremiah to act out their situation by taking a clay jar in front of the people and smashing it on the ground. This demonstration was reenacted by Jonathan Cahn in his spectacular Prophetic Day of Prayer at the National Mall in Washington DC a few days ago on September 26, 2020. The lesson has alarming implications for us; 9/11 was but the first sign with more to come. The invasion of Israel by the Babylonians in 586 BC is a counterpart we don’t want to experience. But if America continues down its moral slide, such a fate is possible, considering that we are already experiencing the judgment of Covid-19. The main sins of America are the removal of the knowledge of the Biblical God and the Bible from our schools, our laws, and our culture, the redefinition of marriage, calling good evil and evil good, and, above all, the shedding of innocent blood, most notably through abortion.

Jeremiah 32:35 “And they built the high places of Baal which are in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come into My mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.”

This horrific practice where a baby was sacrificed on a hot iron idol is like unto abortion where a viable baby in the womb is killed through various disgusting means, whether through chemicals, suction, or utensils which pull its body apart. But another approach is following what Josephus said about Gog and Magog. He identified Rosh with the word Chief and Magog with a people called the Magogians, which were the Scythians, who lived in Central Asia. Today it is in the southern tip of Russia, Ukraine, and various Islamic republics. Notwithstanding the better interpretation of the terms, a resurgent Russia is still very much involved in the region and it could still be aiding an invasion that is led by Muslim forces. If the “latter days” is now, then the stage is set because everyone north of Israel is their enemy.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">

Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-40698641745219971082020-08-21T16:58:00.003-04:002020-08-21T20:37:08.060-04:00More on Jeremiah 49:36-39
<span face="" style="background-color: white; color: #010c2c; font-family: "trebuchet ms"; font-size: 16px;">My last post mentioned verse 39 concerning Edom, but I just read a good book called Iran’s Great Awakening by Dr. Hormoz Shariat that adds some very interesting details to that story. Chapter 48 describes the punishment of Moab, which was a kingdom that caused trouble for Israel, but verse 47 says God will bring back the captives. Just as Moab fought Israel, Jordan has been part of the Arab coalition that invaded Israel in 1948, 1967, and 1973. The Genesis 12:3 promise (I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you) applies to Jordan as well. While in most cases I have emphasized the literal over the allegorical, perhaps verse 47 is an exception. It could be that the captivity that Jordan is under is spiritual and that in the future there will be a turning to Yeshua in Jordan.

Jeremiah 49:39

‘But it shall come to pass in the latter days:

I will bring back the captives of Elam,’ says the LORD.”

Today, Elam is in the nation of Iran. Just as with Jeremiah’s prophecy for Moab, Elam is mentioned in Genesis 14, as having participated in a war in the time of Abraham, involving Chedorlaomer, the king of Elam, which is in present day Iran. Today, it is obvious that Iran is a hater of Israel. But there is a huge underground church that will hopefully be part of the spiritual rebirth of Iran. Many Muslims in Iran and elsewhere are having dreams and visions about Jesus. Let us pray it continues.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">

Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-89972328056889053452020-08-01T19:28:00.003-04:002020-08-01T20:20:08.915-04:00The Latter Days in Jeremiah<h1 dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; I can identify with the phrase “let us go up to the mountain.” Literally speaking, according to the Messianic interpretation, during the early years of the Millenium, when Yeshua sits on the throne in the new Temple atop the Temple mount, the Law - which actually means “Teaching”/ Torah, shall be broadcast around the world.

Jesus (they say) has done away with “salvation by works” and that’s what the Law is (they think). Augustine introduced the idea of allegorical interpretation of Scripture and Covenant Theology has continued its dangerous viewpoints. It views human history as God’s redemptive relationship with mankind based on different covenants, and it emphasizes the transference of this relationship from Israel to the church.

As Moses said before he died, “So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants. But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall surely perish.” It is hard to understand, with such a stark contrast, why anyone would choose the wrong way. But most of the people in Israel did. I must confess that I sometimes choose the wrong way too. It says that in the latter days, when there are times of distress, Israel shall turn to the Lord. It is something we are all waiting for, though it will come in times of distress.

I sometimes wonder if God will take into account the church’s terrible treatment of the Jews, when he judges them (and us). In other words, their negative response up until now, may be partly excusable/compensated because the church has said (mistakenly) to them that Jesus did away with the law. In so doing, we have painted a false picture of who Jesus is. I named this blog Luther’s Baggage because most of the Protestant denominations trace their start to the Reformation. Luther inherited his anti-Jewish and anti-Law views from the Catholic church. The grafted in Gentiles in the ecclesia need to believe all of the scriptures and live in such a way as to make the Jews jealous. I should also say that the covenantal obligations are different for Jewish believers and Gentile believers. But the goal for Gentiles is to become Torah friendly, as in learn and choose because the Master said these things and there is wisdom in them. That comes with time, as Acts 15 envisioned.

I just finished reading Countdown 1945 by Chris Wallace. It is a great book that deals with the creation and use of the Atomic Bombs that ended WWII in Japan. I was particularly interested because I taught a week-long CAD class at Los Alamos, New Mexico many years ago. Los Alamos is where the bombs were created. I remember going to a small museum where they had models of Little Boy and Fat Man (the bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki). Los Alamos is a fascinating place.

I remember attending (as a guest) a synagogue 40 years ago in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. After the service, there was a question and answer period with the rabbi. A young person brought this verse up as one that he questioned. As I recall, the rabbi dismissed its Messianic fulfillment in Jesus because the word Shiloh in the majority of the other verses has to do with the town called Shiloh. But the verse is clearly referring to a person (his feet/to Him). The essential question is who is Shiloh?

Per https://defendinginerrancy.com/bible-solutions/Genesis_49.10.php, the majority of scholars propose a different vowel pointing and understand the word [Shiloh] to mean “to whom it belongs.” This proposal has the support of ancient translations, such as the Greek and Syriac versions of the OT, and others. These ancient versions, being much older than the MT, also render the phrase, “he to whom they belong.” This reading is also supported by Ezekiel 21:27 which states, “Until He comes whose right it is.” When this part of verse 10 is taken this way, the passage reads, “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver’s staff from between his feet, Until He comes to whom it belongs, And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.” In light of this, the Messianic significance of the verse is much clearer. For it is fulfilled in the NT Messiah (Christ), as indicated by such passages as Matthew 2:6, Luke 1:30–33, Revelation 5:5, and 19:11–16.Dennis Kananenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17903077229281785767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3169708825032342789.post-20113860278650486092020-06-15T15:51:00.003-04:002020-06-15T15:51:58.486-04:00The Last Days VersesI am starting a new series that will probably take 5-10 posts. Based on current events and various prophetic words on the subject of the "Last Days", I searched for that phrase, or its equivalent: the "Latter Days" and commented on them, Here is how I organized it:

The expression “In the last days” occurs 5 times in the Bible (NKJV) and a similar expression “in the latter days” occurs 13 times. If we are living just before the last days, or if we are in the last days and don’t know it yet, this is a look at those references.

Before discussing these, it is important to explain that the Bible uses these terms in various ways; sometimes it means in a few years and sometimes it’s just before the second coming. Sometimes it’s both, because Jewish interpretation allows for that. Then there is the fact that the subject of the End Times is hotly debated by the usual liberal/traditional parties. But, I’ll not get into that.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">The title of his session was the “Lost Kingdom.” Christianity lost touch with many things when it became primarily Gentile - and the Messianic Kingdom is one of those things. You may recall that after Yeshua revealed himself after his resurrection, his disciples wanted to know “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.” The time they were referring to is the Messianic Era, or the Millenium. This thousand year period written about by Isaiah, has been hotly debated throughout church history. In fact, I wrote about it extensively in this blog a few years ago when I quoted from a book I have called The Thousand Years. Search in the archives to learn more.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">The problem began when the early Catholic leaders (such as Eusebius, Constantine, Dionysius, Jerome, Augustine) started interpreting many prophecies allegorically, rather than literally, which is how the Jews looked at these prophetic utterances. Concepts in the prophets, such as the Torah shall go forth from Jerusalem, the wedding supper of the lamb, a thousand year reign on earth, weapons turned into plowshares (no more war), and the Lion will lie down with the Lamb, were too utopian to be believed and put too much emphasis on Israel. So they were spiritualized for the church. The problem has affected many other teachings as well. The bottom line is that the church stopped believing in the Kingdom era and didn’t teach it. It became lost; the allegory placed the meaning on the church and the truth fell by the wayside with the Jews.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Lancaster summarized this with the thought that "eschatology shapes the destination of our faith. If we have our eschatology wrong, we have the Gospel wrong."
