Rosh HaShanah 2011

I will be returning to the Safe Haven book about Harry Truman and the founding of Israel in the next post, but I would be remiss if I didn't point out that sunset today was the beginning of the Feast of Trumpets, aka as the Jewish New Year. It begins a 10 day period called the 10 Days of Awe, which is a period of introspection, culminating in Yom Kippur. In 3 B.C., Rosh HaShanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה‎), was on September 11, which happened to be Jesus' birthday! (See my posts about that in the Archives by searching for "Ernest Martin".)

In the meantime, here's a link to a neat video rap on Rosh HaShanah from Israel that our friend Marge sent to us:

Isaiah 27:13: “It will come about also in that day that a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were perishing in the land of Assyria and who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.”

Finally, greetings from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:

Dennis
