Random Items

Here are a few random items.
A new year of Torah study has begun with the unrolling of the scroll after Simchat Torah. In our case it is the beginning of the just released (and still under construction) volume 6 from FFOZ called the Chronicles of the Apostles, which is an in-depth look at the book of Acts. While reading the Torah portion is still expected, I must confess that time and a busy schedule sometimes little else but to finish the commentary and the questions. Our study is normally facilitated by two brothers, Brian and Matt Johnson. This year, Brian has taken a leave of absence to attend Jerusalem University in Israel. He’s been to Israel several times before and you can follow his escapades at: http://byteofisrael.blogspot.com His brother Matt is ably leading the group at Mars Hill.
My own schedule for the next few months is somewhat in question as I am going through a job change and move. Exactly where that will end up is still in the Lord’s hands; your prayers are appreciated.
Our church is going through a series based upon the book: A Hole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns, the CEO of World Vision. I highly recommend the book, but I do warn you that it will forever change how you look at your involvement with helping the poor. This is well grounded in Torah and the Prophets. Micah 6:8 is a signature verse: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
My next post will continue the commentary on the book A Safe Haven, Harry S. Truman and the Founding of Israel.
