The Latter Days in Jeremiah

Jeremiah 23:20

The anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart. In the latter days you will understand it perfectly.

How could this be realized?

From Psalm 22:16:   Event Prophesied

For dogs have surrounded Me;

The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.

They pierced My hands and My feet;

John 19:34:    Event Fulfilled

But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

Zechariah 12:10:    Past Event Realized (in the Last Days)

“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

The spirit of grace and supplication plus events that we cannot imagine now, will someday cause Israel to believe that Jesus is the Messiah. This will cause them collectively to say 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord'. This is the trigger for Jesus to appear in the clouds and his feet will touch down on the Mount of Olives.  ‘They will look’ implies the Messiah is visible before their eyes as He walks through Jerusalem, and the sight of the  pierced wounds will bring the confirmation that they missed the Messiah. The One they were waiting for was waiting for them. It will be a poignant reenactment of the Prodigal son parable. For God the Father will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication, because the lost son has come home.
