Latter Days in Ezekiel 38:16

Ezekiel 38:16

“Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “On that day when My people Israel dwell safely, will you not know it? “Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army. “You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.”

This is the popular Ezekiel 38/39 prophecy that many have pegged as being Russia, which was often based on identifying Rosh with Russia, Meshech with Moscow, and Tubal with Tobolsk. But another approach is following what Josephus said about Gog and Magog. He identified Rosh with the word Chief and Magog with a people called the Magogians, which were the Scythians, who lived in Central Asia. Today it is in the southern tip of Russia, Ukraine, and various Islamic republics. Notwithstanding the better interpretation of the terms, a resurgent Russia is still very much involved in the region and it could still be aiding an invasion that is led by Muslim forces. If the “latter days” is now, then the stage is set because everyone north of Israel is their enemy.
